New England Center to Produce Transportation Videos for Kids
The New England University Transportation Center is collaborating with Engineering is Elementary (EIE) at the Boston Museum of Science to develop academic material for the EIE program. The team consists of New England Center staff, MIT undergraduates, Museum of Science staff and local high school students.
By utilizing New England Center contacts and resources, the team will make a number of short videos that introduce transportation engineering to elementary school students in an engaging, age-appropriate way. Specific topics will include public transit, automotive safety, rail and aerodynamics. Each video will include interviews with a number of leading New England UTC researchers. The videos will emphasize the broad, diverse and interdisciplinary nature of transportation and will aim to refute common misconceptions that young students have regarding not only the transportation field but also engineering and science in general. The videos will be available both to the 15,000 teachers using the EIE curriculum and to the general public via the internet.
